In recent news, John is best known as the organizer of the Debt Jubilee Project, and he has personally burned over $25 million in medical debts owed by neighbors in North Carolina. The DJP has received international press attention, inspired hundreds of other congregations to follow in their footsteps, and shifted the state-wide health care/medical debt discussion in North Carolina.
